It still seems so surreal even though I’ve found that fated news clip. I just expect everything to be made right in one moment of lucid wakefulness but that’s not gonna be the case. It’s time to move on from denial and move towards acceptance and even victory.
There’s so much to be said. So so much. This picture shares just a little bit. It captures that playful grin you were always so quick to flash whenever we hung out. A mix of what-the-heck? and where-am-i? with maybe even a pinch of i’ve-missed-you guys. It would come out of nowhere, even in the midst of intense discussion on theological matters, or the merit of certain newly-released mangas or even the depth of the Red Sox farm system (serious business, mind you). You always reserved the lowest opinion for yourself and the highest opinions for others. This genuine smile you flashed is just so you. You were always so easy to please - doing simple things with the ones you love - and even though you would probably have it otherwise, your presence was always welcome and well-noted. Like it or not, you’re an HOC legend. A Los Altos Legend. And we love you a lot, Justin.
